Delaney's blankie from her Grammie

So my mom made Delaney the most adorable blanket when she was born, but I feel like no on ever gets to see it and she doesn't get to used it cause you're not supposed to have blankets in bed with them- so I took a picture. ( She also made the crib bumper but I couldn't get a good picture of that). Thanks Grammie!

Random Pictures and Random thoughts...

Well, I had a couple of pictures to post, but nothing really interesting to say, so I thought I might just post some random thoughts to go with the random pictures, let you have a rare glimpse into my rarely functioning mind...

*Why does my kid only like dog toys? I could have 20 of her toys on the floor and somehow ( using her super- human germ finding abilites) she will find the one disgusting dog toy and have it in her mouth before I can even get there. I find it a little upsetting, to say the least ( so do the dogs!).

* NEWSBREAK* Delaney has finally decided that she can nap in her crib as opposed to in my arms, which means that I got to read a book. A real book... not just a magazine! I'm reading Pillars of the Earth, very long book, I'll let you know how it is later- maybe next year at this rate. While we're talking about books,I think everyone needs to read Peace Like a River by Leif Enger, SERIOUSLY READ IT- you'll love it- promise.

*I made the hat Laney's wearing in the pictures- isn't it cute? And her uncle Drew bought her the WSU gear- GO COUGS!

* I love Jon and Kate plus 8. The other day they were on Oprah, in my world this is the equivalent of a solar eclispe. She's (Kate- not sure about Oprah) more of a germaphobe than I am, which makes me feel normal! Speaking of TV- I hate Sandra Lee ( on the food network) Seriously her clothes match her curtains and she always has themed "table scapes" I mean SERIOUSLY, gag me! Give me some Paula Dean anyday.

*I hate doing sit-ups, REALLY hate it. Why does no one tell you that even when the "baby weight" is gone your waist will never be quite the same? (if you're one of the people who now have a perfectly flat stomach after 4 children- don't leave a comment telling me to do more sit-ups. I might start sending you hate mail) On that note, I should also mention that everyone should try Ben and Jerrys Vanilla Heath bar crunch ice cream... VERY yummy.
* Bobbie- I think you need a blog. You could post recipes, so I would have something besides spagetti to cook. You could even video yourself cooking cause I tend to be a visual learner... better yet- just come here and cook for us.

A new bath tub

Yesterday I found this blow up bath tub somewhere in Delaney's closet and decided to try it out. She thought it was great, especially when Ryan made it buck, but it was a little slippery in the bath tub, and I almost dunked her once... oops!

Laney's first trip to the zoo

Yesterday was a beautiful day in Seattle so we decided to take Delaney for her first trip to the zoo. It was full of people and strollers but we managed without major incident (Ryan only crashed the stroller a few times). We did bring the stroller but apparently my child is too good for that so I ended up carrying her the entire time... and then she fell asleep. Oh well, her daddy and I had a nice time.

Adventures in eating

So- the highlight of our Valentines day was Delaney's first taste of real food (if you call rice cereal real food, that stuff is kinda gross). I have been looking forward to this for a long time now, since hopefully this means that her daddy can feed her some too (and I can get away for longer than 3 hours) but as you can see from the pictures she wasn't as excited about this idea as I was.

Delaney- The last six months

I tried a different type of slideshow this time. hopefully this one works better!

A Late Valentines day...

And making their debut on our blog... our dogs, Angus (the pug) and Swede (the mini Aussie.)

She looks so sweet.... wait did you just say love child?

Today I took Delaney to her doctor for her 6 month check up and shots ( for those of you looking for her latest vitals stats... she weighs 17 lbs , is 27 inches long and has a huge, Charlie Brown head! :) 75% for weight, 90% for height and head size) and things began pretty well.

I'm sure most of you can understand how much it sucks to take your baby to get her shots, not only does it hurt (and may possibly be autism in a bottle- another subject entirely) but they look at you with this look of utter betrayal, mommy how could you?! So, I dread this appointment like the plague, but so far we've managed without major incident- today however was a different story...

Despite the long wait, and Delaney's severe case of stranger danger with the Dr. we made it through the first part of the appointment with only a few tears. Then the nurse came in with the needles (cue Jaws theme music). With the first shot she just looked at me waiting for me to stop the problem, when it became obvious to her that I was a participant in this torture she decided to take matters into her own hands, and began screaming. By the second shot she was at about a 9.5 on the scream meter (S.M.). Now, for those of you thinking, no big deal, kids cry all the time- you've never heard my daughter scream. It is a noise that can only be described as the noise that might come from the love child of a Howler Monkey and a Terradactyl. Seriously, its unlike any noise you have ever heard, and she seems to be able to produce it without pause (even to breathe! ) for unimaginable lengths of time. By the time she had her fourth and final shot, she had made it to a 10 on the S.M.

Now, having heard this particular noise (and suffered the resulting permanent hearing loss) I wasn't too upset, the nurse, however, informed me that in EIGHT years of giving infants shots this was the " LOUDEST she had EVER heard". Ouch, not exactly what every parent hopes to hear.

After hearing that I could only hope that the crowd in the waiting room had not heard my little girl's performance, but that was not to be. I know the receptionist from school and the first thing she said to me was, " did that noise come from such a little girl?" Then I had to do the walk of shame through the waiting room where every pair of eyes watched us leave... Yikes!

Blast from the past..

When we were home for Christmas my mom dug out some of my old clothes from when I was a baby so I put Delaney in them today to see how they fit... very cute! Check out the Nikes, all she wanted to do was eat them! Also on another note- this morning I was letting Laney play on the floor while I did some work in the kitchen and when I went to check on her she had somehow found one of the dogs bones and was chewing on it. DISGUSTING!!! Yikes, I guess I'm going to have to keep all of the dogs toys well out of reach!

Our New Additions

We recently added two new fish to our fish tank (and when I say our I actually mean Ryan's since he does all the work but I clean the glass from time to time so I take some credit). The striped one is named Penny who my husband tells me is a Copperbanded Butterfly fish, and the scary looking on is called Spike and he's Scribble Rabbit Fish.

Musings of a stay at home mom....

Yesterday as I was cleaning up after one of my dogs yet again (this time they decieded to help themselves to my pantry) I realized that it was almost time for Oprah and I haven't even made it out of my pajamas for the day. ( And for those of you who are wondering I do now use TV shows to tell the time... The Today Show ends and its time for Laney's nap; Wolf Blitzer comes on CNN and it's time for lunch- you get the idea). Last year at this time I would have been busy teaching some in-depth critical analysis of a piece of literature, and now I was cursing my dogs for eating Saltines in my pajamas wondering if I should brush my hair before my husband comes home. Ah how things change, interesting that last year I had 167 kids who basically did what I told them to do and now I have one kid and two dogs who don't even sit on command. Guess I'm not in charge anymore! Of course I love my daughter, but there are still some days that I wish I could still give out detention to people who don't listen when I talk!
