This month Delaney’s been taking a dance class and Tuesday she had her first little dance recital. It was pretty cute- even if there wasn’t much dancing. (this might be one of those you want to skip if we’re not related- the camera work leaves something to be desired!)

A Gorilla Suit
On my 13th birthday my mom showed up AT SCHOOL wearing a gorilla suit and carrying balloons. Horrifying right? I still remember seeing her walk in and thinking that someone was about to have a very bad day, then she walked toward me. It has always baffled me, why would my otherwise cool mom choose to humiliate her daughter on the most awkward of birthdays- I mean c’mon junior high is fraught with embarrassment, did I really need my mom to show up at my locker after school dressed like an ape? I think not.
However, in the past few months here are a few other embarrassments I’ve endured…
1. In Barnes and Noble in Spokane Delaney thought it would be funny to lift up my dress. Hope those happy little shoppers enjoyed a nice look at my granny panties.
2. Laney announced LOUDLY to Jessica and Emersyn (and the entire audience at story time in the Kennewick library) that “My daddy has a butt, but I have a bum. You hear that Jessa and moo moo?”
3. In a public restroom she has asked me to “help squeeze her poop out.” (No idea where that one came from).
This from a child who can scream like a hyena and has no problem waking the dead when she doesn’t get what she wants in a store. She has also- knocked over and entire rack of clothes on Emersyn in Gymboree, cried and rolled all over the floor in almost every store possible and peeked under restroom stalls and dressing room doors, just to say hi.
Lets just say I’ve recently gotten a little insight into what compelled my usually sane mother dress up like a monkey in public.
Paybacks are a bitch.
I think I’ll put a Gorilla costume on hold….

Seattle Zoo
Okay- this is the last of our vacation photos- promise. Tuesday we went to the zoo- one of Ryan and I’s favorite places in Seattle. It was a rare beautiful fall day and we spend almost 5 hours wandering around looking at the animals and playing. There wasn’t that many people there so we got to see a lot!
I don’t know what Delaney liked more- the real animals or the bronze ones!
We happened to be there in time to feed the giraffes- it was AMAZING for $5 Laney and I got to go up to a special area and feed the giraffes- it was so much fun! They gave you a small branch and he just reached his long neck over and ate it! It was really cool to get to see them so close. Although after that I had a hard time explaining to her why we couldn’t feed ALL the animals at the zoo!
I think we’ve been watching too much Dora because Delaney HAD to have to map the entire trip so she could tell us where to go… I’m the map, I’m the map…
Ryan and his mini-me! I’m not sure what face Ryan’s making- but he’s probably telling me to put the camera away- he hates pictures!
The Seattle Aquarium
Here are some more pictures from our little trip to Seattle. Monday we went to the aquarium, which is always fun. Going to an aquarium with Ryan is like getting a guided tour- he knows everything about everything there. Laney, of course, loved it. She touched everything in the touch tank and remembered most of the names of the fishes ( she especially likes the lion fish and the puffers ).
A funny Laney story- right now she’s very into families- everything has to have a mommy and a daddy and a baby. While we were at the water park I told her she had some money to pick out a toy. She found a little stuffed wolf that she wanted but refused to buy it because it needed its mommy (a larger stuffed wolf). When I told her that she didn’t have enough money for both she refused to get the baby and insisted on putting the entire wolf family to bed together before we left the store. So… at the aquarium she found a little stuffed seal that had a baby with it. She is in LOVE. I don’t think I’ve ever seen her really love a toy so much. It hasn’t left her side since! Silly girl!
